Now in its ninth year, the Fi Europe Startup Challenge 2024 – a unique competition for young companies championing ingredient innovations – is encouraging industry entrepreneurs to submit their applications. This year’s challenge will feature four exciting categories, including the new most innovative foodtech solution plus a special jurys choice award for the most innovative sustainable solution.

The awards recognise innovative products and ideas for the food and beverage ingredients sector, and inspirational young companies that are driving positive
changes in the industry. The Fi Europe Startup Challenge also offers a unique platform for startups to gain exposure to a global audience, expand their networks
and attract investment. Just by entering the challenge, participants are guaranteed to catch the eye of the advisory board, who will be compiling the shortlist of entrants. All shortlisted startups will not only have the opportunity to pitch to an influential judging panel, but also showcase their innovation to more than 25,000 visitors who attend Fi Europe.

Entries are open to startups active for 5 years or less, with innovations focusing on groundbreaking additives and ingredients, technologies and digital solutions.

This year there are four different categories –  most innovative food or beverage ingredient, most innovative plant-based or alternative ingredient, most innovative foodtech solution, most innovative service or digital solution supporting the f&b industry. Additionally, there will be a jury’s choice award for most innovative sustainable solution chosen from the finalists across all categories.

The winning startups in each category will be able to choose one prize from a selection up for grabs, including a free stand at next year’s Fi Europe, a digital
marketing package for Ingredients Network and Fi Global Insights, or mentorship and support from one of the jury members. This year’s panel and supporting companies include Michael Dovbish, executive, director, Nutrition Capital Network; Kevin Camphuis, co-Founder, ShakeUpFactory; Itziar Ortega, senior vp global operations, Eatable Adventures; Thomas van den Boezem, principal, PeakBridge; Albrecht Wolfmeyer, international director of ProVeg Incubator; Sonia Huppert, global innovation marketing leader, IFF; and nutrition consultant Sandra Einerhand, founder of Einerhand Science & Innovation and co-founder of the Fi Europe Startup Challenge.

“Startups are defining and designing the innovative food ingredients of tomorrow, but often lack the scale and funds to bring their solutions to market,” says Yannick
Verry, brand director, Food ingredients Europe & Americas. “Connecting with the right partners is therefore a fundamental part of any startup’s journey, and the Fi
Europe Startup Challenge is the ideal place to do so.”

“Participating in an event like this is always positive, as other companies, potential clients and investors get to know you, thus reinforcing the brand,” adds David
Ciudad Rodriguez, CEO and co-founder of Deep Detection, one of the 2023 award winning companies. For more information on the Fi Europe Startup Challenge 2024, which will take place in Frankfurt at the Fi Europe Innovation Hub on 19 November, please click here.

The announcement follows a reorganisation of the PML Seafrigo management team which also sees Ryan Parr assume the role of Operations Director for the UK and Ireland, overseeing the efficient and seamless transfer of temperature sensitive goods by air, ocean and road.

Commenting on the appointment, Seafrigo Group CEO Eric Barbé said, “Mike’s profound knowledge, understanding and expertise within the perishable goods market and his impressive reputation within the sector, not just as a successful business operator but also as a key figurehead and spokesperson who is regularly sought out to comment on the challenges facing our industry, combine to make him the natural candidate to continue PML Seafrigo’s growth and development. Seafrigo has exciting expansion plans in place to enable the business to continue in its journey, to becoming the world’s leading end-to-end temperature-controlled food logistics solution and I’m confident that under Mike’s stewardship, PML Seafrigo will be integral in the future success of Seafrigo Group.”

Mike Parr says, “I’m delighted to have the opportunity to be working closely with Mr Barbé to lead PML Seafrigo into the next phase of its development. Of course, when PML was sold to Seafrigo, I did consider retiring but I soon realised that I’m just not ready to adapt to the quiet life and still absolutely love the buzz associated with working in this sector! By harnessing the global presence and extensive resources associated with both companies, together with the shared ongoing commitment to the delivery of a best-in-class customer service, I firmly believe that PML Seafrigo will further enhance its reputation for excellence within the specialist field of logistics and supply chain solutions for perishable goods.”

I’m taking a pause from watching the Paris Olympics and trying not to vent my frustration at the BBC inexplicably switching from a brilliant gold medal tennis match yesterday to shooting and so forth, to give you all some exciting news.

At Dairy Industries International, we are planning for the future.

Yes, the Dairy Industries Expo will be running again in the UK next year, with a view towards bringing to the industry what has been demanded from industry professionals – a dedicated event that encompasses the entire dairy processing chain, from processor to plate.

The Dairy Industries Expo will bring together the latest in processing machinery and services, packaging machines and materials, turnkey suppliers, quality control and assurance, ingredients, and logistics, creating the most comprehensive international dairy processing show, all under one roof.

Targeting the entire dairy processing and manufacturing industry, the event will provide a platform for meeting new customers and strengthening relationships with current clients. This is the industry’s own event, set to deliver all the latest innovations and developments – from butter, yogurt and milk, to ice cream, cheese and whey, and so much more.

This means, sadly, that we will not be working with our friends at the International Cheese & Dairy Awards next year, as we’re looking to cover the entire spectrum of dairy products and services with our event. Cheese is obviously a wonderful, diverse product type, but it is just one colour of the rainbow that is dairy.

So, keep an eye out on your inbox and on the socials, as we will be announcing the dates and venues coming up. Every year we plan to get bigger and better, and 2025 is set to be a great show for the expo and the industry. Don’t miss out!

We are excited to announce the Dairy Industries Expo is set to take place in autumn 2025. This exhibition meets the longstanding demand from industry professionals for a dedicated event that encompasses the entire dairy processing chain—from processor to plate.

The Dairy Industries Expo will bring together the latest in processing machinery and services, packaging machines and materials, turnkey suppliers, quality control and assurance, ingredients, and logistics, creating the most comprehensive international dairy processing show under one roof.

Targeting the entire dairy processing and manufacturing industry, the event will provide a powerful platform for meeting new customers and strengthening relationships with current clients. This is the industry’s own event, set to deliver all the latest innovations and developments – from butter, yogurt and milk, to ice cream, cheese and whey.

Visitors will experience cutting-edge dairy innovations and equipment presented by exhibitors, and they can participate in informative workshops and seminars.

The event will feature an exciting programme of keynote presentations covering all sectors of the dairy industry, with free-to-attend sessions on the exhibition floor. Additionally, a series of engaging workshops will ensure that Dairy Industries Expo is much more than just a trade show.

Organized by the leading industry journal Dairy Industries International, alongside Bell Publishing’s experienced events team, the Dairy Industries Expo was launched in response to the industry’s call for an international event specifically targeting their needs.

Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to be part of the Dairy Industries Expo, where the future of dairy processing will be on full display.

More than just a trade show, this is the event that will shape the industry’s future.

Sadly, we will not be working with our friends at the International Cheese & Dairy Awards next year, as we’re looking to cover the entire spectrum of dairy products and services with our event.

Stay tuned!

Only a few days to go until the International Cheese & Dairy Expo, and we can’t wait to welcome you to Stafford County Showground for a week of technology, cheese, dairy equipment and supply, along with Love Cheese Live on Friday and Saturday. It has been months of planning and now this week, it begins.

The Society of Dairy Technology kicks off with its cheese-themed Summer Symposium on Wednesday 26 June, at 12 noon. Then, an afternoon of technical cheese processing issues are explored, along with a free lunch served, in the Members’ Pavilion at the venue. The day ends with the Society’s annual dinner the same evening. The timing of the 2024 SDT annual dinner (key sponsor, Diversey) is perfect for those attending the International Cheese and Dairy Expo on Thursday 27 June.

The next morning, it is the cheese judging for the International Cheese & Dairy Awards, with thousands of cheeses on display and hundreds of judges, and our very own Expo, held at the same time. Our industry seminars begin at 9:30 with Ecolab, and wind up at 15:30 with Savencia and the Academy of Cheese. Not to mention the dozens of exhibitors on hand, ranging from Amcor to Pedrollo Distribution and Masterpack.

It promises to be a jam-packed day, full of information, cheese and interesting exhibitors of all stripes.

For those who want some star power, Adam Hensen (from Countryfile – who does not love a farmer?) will be at the SDT Dinner, while James Martin and AJ Pritchard will be at Love Cheese Live on Friday and Saturday, 28-29 June. Plus, there will be master classes from Arla, Lactalis and Nomad, with a lot of exciting things to do, eat and see over the Love Cheese Live weekend.

Almost too much to take in, but do come along as the Expo is free to attend. Don’t miss all the excitement in Stafford!

We have a properly full exhibition hall, so I almost can’t think of where all these cheeses are going to be put, but there is enough room for all of the exhibitors, the seminars and the cheeses at the Staffordshire County Showground next week on 27 June. Like a big holiday, it is almost here and we are beside ourselves with excitement at the prospect of exhibitors such as PDV Consultants, Organic Herd, Pedrollo Distribution Ltd, OptaHaul and 6ix Process Design Ltd (6PD) joining us, along with speakers such as AB Dairy, Infor, Meurens and Ever.Ag.

John Tobin, the speaker and president of MES at Ever.Ag, has over 25 years’ experience in the deployment of MES systems in the food and beverage industries. Some of these projects include automation of production processes on SCADA systems, distributed control systems, the definition, design and implementation of corporate MES strategies.

He regularly conducts MES consultancy exercises on behalf of Orbis for a range of clients including Diageo, Glanbia, Ornua, DFA and Baxter Pharmaceutical. He has led the initiative within Ever.Ag to specialise in the area of operational intelligence and digitization for food and beverage.

He holds a B.E. in mechanical engineering and is a member of the Institute of Engineers of Ireland. He has presented at a number of international conferences for MESA, ISA, WBF, Aspentech and has co-authored various publications in industrial journals.

Ever.Ag’s MES OPS 4.0 software is installed in multiple sites across the globe. The company’s mission is to create innovative AgTech solutions and services that empower agriculture, food, and beverage supply chains to feed a growing world. Ever.Ag’s MES Digitization solution monitors KPI’s to enable production of a consistent, predictable and quality assured product. It provides traceability from intake to finished goods incorporating a paperless pactory to digitise the plant floor.

Ever.Ag’s cheese yield optimisation module is designed to increase revenue margins. It is powered by AI/machine learning to provide a predictive model to improve outputs – for example, more cheese and better quality. Both measures increase revenue and margin by 1% to 3%. John Tobin will be speaking at 11:00am on 27 June in the seminars. Don’t miss it!

There is still time to register here!

Clegg Food Projects, Stand 1469

From milk bottling to yogurt production and cheese factories to vegan alternatives, Clegg Food Projects has an impressive track record for design & build projects across the sector.

The dairy sector is at the forefront of FMCG and incredibly innovative, which means it’s not only an exciting industry to be part of but also keeps us on our toes. From new product ranges to alternative protein options, the number of new products is vast – and so are the project requirements.

Therefore, we begin all our construction projects by understanding the client’s goals and carefully considering each detail. We work closely with OEMs and client teams to ensure facilities are hygienically designed and constructed sustainably with an ‘inside out’ approach – especially given the complex processing equipment often required. As a result, we offer a comprehensive approach that is tailored to each client’s specific needs, whether that be a new build with all the bells and whistles or a factory extension to add extra processing space.

We have more than 40 years of experience and technical expertise in the dairy sector, and we are fortunate enough to work with a number of household brands such as Alpro, Dairy Crest, Müller, NÖM Dairy, and many more.

Get in touch today via email foodprojects@clegggroup.co.uk or phone +44 115 841 3121, and we look forward to seeing you at the International Cheese and Dairy Expo.

Our International Cheese & Dairy Expo is shaping up and as we go into the final run towards the exhibition and cheese judging itself, here are a few things to keep in mind. It is a two-day event, with the Society of Dairy Technology’s summer symposium and dinner on 26 June. Then, on 27 June, there is the ICDA judging, the networking lunch, and our one-day exhibition and seminar. There will be a lot to do and plenty of people to meet and network with on the day. It is not one to be missed.

One speaker will be John Allen, the founder of Kite Consulting, which are recognised consultancy specialists in the UK dairy sector. He now is leading the corporate and global business for the AB Dairy business and works along the dairy supply chain with some of the UK’s leading operators and has linkages with international processors via the International Farming Community Network (IFCN).

He will be discussing, “Challenging Cheese: Futureproofing our industry,” at 14:00 on 27 June in the Seminar Theatre, which is located among the exhibitors in the hall. He has been recognised with a number of awards for his contribution to the industry.

There is a lot of free parking at the showground and there will be thousands of visitors attending. It is also free to attend, so make sure you sign up and get to the Expo.

I was away on a work trip last week, and a lot of things reminded me of our upcoming International Cheese & Dairy Expo show, which is on 27 June. First, it was seeing Ian Luxton of Belton Farm and also chairman of the International Cheese & Dairy Awards, in person. It is always a pleasure and he does so much work on the awards every year.

Secondly, there were a lot of presentations of varying types, but it was all about the confluence of both exhibitors and visitors that are allied with the dairy industry.

Which is what is happening on 27 June, with extra cheese and in the heart of the UK in Staffordshire. It is an event where many will attend, and more exciting keynote speakers will be announced shortly.

The international aspect of our show cannot be overemphasised. More than 5,000 cheeses from around the globe, plus speakers in the seminar who come from France, New Zealand, Scandinavia, and of course the UK. The exhibitors are truly worldwide, from China, the Netherlands, Ireland, the UK, Denmark and Belgium, to name just a few. It will be an event not to miss.

Here at the International Cheese & Dairy Expo headquarters, we are busy, pulling together the speakers for the seminar, setting up trade stands for the exhibitors, and getting everything organised for 27 June. I look forward to seeing everyone in one place, all discussing and showcasing the dairy industry we all know and love.

One of our key speakers and exhibitors is DFDS, which is a leading European transport and logistics company, serving customers across Europe and Turkey. “We move goods in trailers by ferry, road, and rail, across 66 logistics locations and employ more than 13,200 people,” says Tom Jackaman, DFDS Logistics business development manager.

“DFDS Logistics offers a full-service package, including contract logistics, cold-chain transport and warehousing as well as full load, part load and groupage services, with cross-docking, blast freezing and up tempering,” he continues. “In addition, we provide customs clearance services and Port Health (SIVEP) processing; validating CHEDs and paying port taxes, to ensure the smooth flow of goods at the border.

“Specifically for UK exporters of chilled dairy products, DFDS operates three times (3x) groupage departures per week and multiple daily trailers for FTL and PTL shipments. Using our knowledge and expertise in shipping Products of Animal Origin (POAO), DFDS provides a hassle-free, in-house process from departure to delivery.

“Moving goods and people by land and sea leaves a large carbon footprint. It is therefore our responsibility to review our impact on the environment and to secure a more sustainable future for the generations to come. In Logistics, our 2030 greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction target is a 75% reduction in GHG intensity from road transport, terminals and warehousing. Various initiatives are underway to help us achieve this goal, not least the deployment of 125 Electrical Volvo Trucks, making it one of Europe’s largest heavy-duty electric truck fleets.”

Don’t miss the DFDS presentation at 11:30 on 27 June at the International Cheese & Dairy Expo stage, which is being sponsored by AB Dairy. Along with MADCAP, Wafilin, Lyras (Sycamore Process Engineering), Amcor, Bord Bia, Meurens, Masterpack, Ecolab, Infor, Kendamil and Novonesis (formerly Chr Hansen), it will be an informative day at the Expo.

An industry collaboration led by national dairy co-operative First Milk to bring digital innovation to Cumbria and South West Scotland is gaining momentum. Entering its second year, this part of the Digital Dairy Chain, a UK Research & Innovation-funded project, has brought together partners from across the supply chain to find solutions to the technology challenges they identified together.

Six projects spanning farm, transport and factory are doing just that. Two of the farm-based studies are extending the use of existing on-farm sensor technologies to investigate and improve cow welfare.

“This illustrates exactly what the demonstrator projects are all about – increasing efficiency with technology,” said Roger Briddock, regenerative programme manager at First Milk. “By using what’s already on the farm, we’re not reinventing the wheel, we’re simply taking the data further and wider to increase animal welfare, productivity and environmental gains.”

The transport-focused project has brought milk processors together to increase transparency and improve data transfer, assuring the quality and provenance of milk exchanges.

“This project has the potential to be a real gamechanger, eliminating the need for the wasteful disposal of milk not meeting required specifications,” commented Briddock. “Once the research is complete, we aim to commercialise it, with more milk buyers able to join us, increasing the financial benefits for everyone.”

The factory project mirrors this potential for reducing waste, embracing the newest technology involving AI mechanisms.

“At First Milk, we are committed to driving innovation and have built robust relationships with all our partners involved in the trials – the team at Digital Dairy Chain, the companies and the universities,” concluded Briddock.

Alongside the Digital Dairy Chain team, project partners include Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC), the University of Strathclyde, University of the West of Scotland (UWS), Lactalis and National Milk Records (NMR).

“Encouraged by the progress we’ve seen in these projects so far, we are constantly looking to bring industry and researchers together to identify more areas where ground-breaking science can support efficient, regenerative milk production,” said Stuart Martin, programme director at Digital Dairy Chain.

Excitement is building here at the Dairy Industries International headquarters, as we gear up for our second exhibition, the International Cheese and Dairy Expo on 27 June, held in conjunction with the ICDA and a day after the Society of Dairy Technology‘s Summer Symposium and Annual Dinner at Bingley Hall, Staffordshire County Showground. It promises to be a day to remember as Europe’s largest event devoted to the art of dairy product producing and supply to the dairy industry. Everything for the industry, under one roof! Together with the ICDA and following our friends at the SDT.

Exhibitors such as CEM, Wafilin Systems, JWCI, Water Technology, Blackwater Engineering, Yorkshire Dama and Mettler Toledo joining us, along with Masterpack, Fristam Pumps, Bioscan and bioMérieux UK Ltd, as well as Beijing Kwinbon Technology, DFDS Logistics and MADCAP – just naming a few. With exhibitors coming from all over the world, it promises to be an exciting day at the show.

There will also be the much-heralded international cheese judging, with cheeses and dairy arriving from all corners of the globe. This event is in its 128th year, and continues to get bigger and better as it gets older. Thousands of cheeses and dairy products are inspected by judges from every part of the industry, from cheese maker to retail buyers, and awards given out for best in class and Supreme Champion.

A networking lunch, sponsored by Ecolab, is also occurring during the show on the 27th. As an attendee, one can pop in and out of the seminars that we are having in the middle of the exhibition floor. It will be a worthwhile day out.

Do keep an eye out for more announcements about keynote speakers and exhibitors. The exhibition spaces are already about 80 per cent sold out, so if you want to join us with a stand, act quickly and contact Samantha Bull at sam@bellpublishing.com, 0773 887 8831.

PML Seafrigo’s scheduled chilled LCL (Less than Container Load) service to the States has enabled British craft cheese producers to enjoy a slice of the US market, with America showing a hunger for access to premium, artisan (often hand-crafted) cheeses this Christmas.

The global logistics and supply chain specialist’s LCL service to New York, enables the successful transfer of the best of British artisan foods to the States in just 11 days, with specialist cheeses proving particularly popular with America’s retailers.

PML Seafrigo is currently running the LCL offering on a monthly basis with the last pre-Christmas consignment already having left the UK. In addition to LCL, PML Seafrigo provides a FCL (Full Container lLoad) route, with one of the  top five multiples shipping a container of cheese every week via this route.

Commenting on the success of the London to New York line, PML Seafrigo’s Director of Ocean and Road, Ian Shuttlewood says, “We’re delighted with the uptake amongst specialist food producers who have been quick to recognise the benefits of this highly cost-effective freight solution to the US (customers only pay for the space they use in the container). Cheese has definitely proved our most popular export during the festive period but looking ahead, we anticipate significant interest from premium chocolate producers keen to capitalise on the major windows of opportunity represented by Valentine’s Day and Easter, as retailers seek out new gifting solutions from the UK.

We have the capability to create a dedicated chocolate chamber within the container to cater for the specific temperature requirements of chocolate, whilst our warehousing facilities in the UK and US offer a similar facility to ensure the seamless, efficient transfer of this highly temperature sensitive cargo, providing producers with the confidence that their fine chocolate goods will arrive at the final destination in optimum condition.”

According to research by CBI Ministry of Foreign Affairs, overall, British chocolate exports to the EU have been significantly reduced after Brexit, while exports to non-EU countries like China, the USA and Australia have increased. Marry this statement with the fact that U.S. imports of chocolate exceed those of the next largest importer by over a billion U.S. dollars (Statista August 2023) and it clear to see the sales potential for UK chocolatiers.

Artisan producers looking to export to the US can find out more about the LCL service by contacting PML Seafrigo direct, email: i.shuttlewood@seafrigo.com.

We have been busy working on next year’s Expo, alongside our good friends at the International Cheese and Dairy Awards, to launch the International Cheese and Dairy Expo

The new Expo, which includes the International Cheese and Dairy Awards, Dairy Industries Expo and Dairy Industries International, will be a purely dedicated event just for the dairy industry. It will bring together producers, retailers, processing machinery and services, packaging machines and materials, turnkey suppliers, quality control and assurance, ingredients and logistics.

It is now the whole industry under one roof, in Stafford. Right in the middle of the country on 26-27 June 2024.

The event will include the International Cheese and Dairy Awards, workshops, seminars, keynote speakers and a networking lunch.

Also, we mustn’t forget the Society of Dairy Technology, which was key to making our inaugural event the success it was last year. They will be hosting their annual dinner during the evening of our Expo and we hope to work with them to make the seminars even better than before for the visitors.

Part of this event is to ensure that many hands make light work. Together, we can make this the premier show for the industry, both in the UK and worldwide. Please visit www.internationalcheesedairyexpo.com or email sam@bellpublishing.com for more information.

It is an interesting fact that dairy is produced and consumed in almost every country around the world, and here in the UK, it is widely manufactured all over, not least in Yorkshire where Harrogate resides. Thus, this is one of the reasons why we opted for the pretty spa spot as a venue for our inaugural exhibition and seminars sessions 4-5 October.

The exhibitors and speakers all have such interesting information to impart, from how to pick the perfect flooring for your processing, to how to make your product stand out from the crowd.

The chill chain is a key component of our industry in many segments. Penmann/Clauger, for example are speaking on 5 October at 12:30. Both John Kirwin and Laurent Guesdon will discuss the benefits of rapid cooling for dairy products.

Meanwhile, Ali Sedaghat Doost of FAM Stumabo is detailing what the challenges are when shredding plant-based cheese alternatives. This one is particularly interesting as dairy processors look at adding to their product range with non-dairy SKUs. He will be speaking at 14:10 on 4 October.

On the exhibitor side, Blackwater Engineering is on stand M135, showcasing its stainless steel vessels, silos and processing systems for the dairy sector, and BV Dairy on stand M127 is highlighting its dairy products for the hospitality, manufacturing and food services. Spray drying is represented at European Spraydry Technologies on stand 420, and there are many more to explore at the show. See you there.

This week, our inaugural, free to attend, Dairy Industries Expo begins in Harrogate, UK. It will be on Wednesday and Thursday this week, 4-5 October, and promises to be a collection of exciting equipment and services, dairy making discussions and all manners of processing patter for the attendees. I am very much looking forward to seeing you all in person at the Harrogate Convention Centre. Entrance 4 is on Ripon Road. Can’t wait!

I have spent a lot of time this last week attending exhibitions and conferences, both in-person and online. PPMA was held in Birmingham (26-28 September), with several of our exhibitors also there with their fabulous stands. See photo. It was busy with attendees from all over, and I suspect ours will be similarly busy.

Online, the IFCN held its annual Supporters Conference on 27 October, which was also held in-person in Chester, UK (25-28 September). During the sessions, the audience was warned about the long-term prospects of cheese making in the UK.

Currently, UK cheese makers would generally rather sell abroad than in the UK. Time and investment to develop these export markets is already invested by some players. Once these markets have been created, they will start to take priority. However, retailers who have understanding and empathy, and who are prepared to work with their supplier, will find they will go the extra mile for them,” said Erik Elgersma, of Strategic Analysis Services, one of the authors of the Kite Consulting report on the matter. Our November issue will provide a feature covering this online conference, on the concerns consumers such as Generation Z have.

We will also be covering our own seminars, being held at the Dairy Industries Expo. These will range from cheese making issues, to getting one’s human-machine interfaces right. Not to mention flooring, sampling, cooling, freeze drying, packaging and turnkey systems. However, there is no substitute for seeing things in person, so I encourage everyone who can to attend. See you there!

It is just over a week until the doors open at the Dairy Industries Expo in Harrogate and to say we’re excited about the exhibition and seminars is an understatement. It’s the same as if you’ve been waiting for a concert for ages, or your birthday. And then it arrives at last!

There will be a fine collection of exhibitors and seminars to examine and listen to at the show, ranging from J&E Hall‘s ammonia-based refrigeration systems (M405) to QualiTru‘s sampling systems presentation at 14:30 on 5 October. Analytics, shredding, cooling, flooring, sealing, packaging, turnkey automation and the Society of Dairy Technology‘s annual general meeting will all be part of the event, and much more.

I’m a bit stymied myself, as there will be so much to see and do, I wonder if I’ll be able to take it all in two days. However. I have my comfortable new shoes and if you see me and the rest of the Dairy Industries International team galloping about, you’ll understand why, as I’ll be getting all the information from the seminars, and the exhibitors, and walking around from place to place. I will be definitely getting my 10,000 steps in on both days.

We really hope to see you there and if you haven’t registered yet, please note that it is free to attend. Our stand is M200 and we will be happy to see you. Harrogate in the autumn is a beautiful part of the world, and well worth the visit. See you at the show!

On 21 September IMD and Pro Water will celebrate a new partnership. Earlier this month, Eddy Hilbrink, André Bos and Tom Dekker signed the official documents giving a new start to their 13 years of cooperation. Both companies will continue as partners under the umbrella of the Onyma Group with the objective to innovate and grow smarter and faster.

IMD is an international player in the dairy field and advises dairy industry in The Netherlands and abroad to significantly reduce product losses and costs, and to become more sustainable at the same time.

Advanced measurements have long been indispensable in optimizing processes in both industry and governments within the water world. This new partnership brings together two powerhouses in the field of measurement: IMD is known for its innovative measurement solutions and Pro Water for its robust product knowledge.

In its 53 years of existence, IMD has played a pioneering role in the water world when it comes to monitoring and measurement. Their expertise grew from knowledge about reliable (traditional) measurement to integral process knowledge where the company uses smart software for its customers, giving customers 24/7 online access to reliable data.

Pro Water has obtained extensive measurement knowledge during its 23-year existence. Pro Water is the distributor of renowned brands such as Lovibond Tintometer, Gebrüder Heyl, Kuntze Instruments, Horiba, GO System-elektronik and LuminUltra. Whether it is swimming pool water, process water, wastewater or drinking water, Pro Water has the measurement in-house to accurately measure virtually every parameter.

Cooperation and knowledge exchange has always played a major role between Pro Water and IMD. IMD employees encounter customer questions in the field for which they see a solution in a particular type of measurement. In their search for the right measurement technique, they often ended up at Pro Water. Pro Water, in turn, could turn to IMD for applications and testing of measurements, and for unlocking the data through IMD’s software platform: Sensight.

Now that both companies operate under the same holding company, Pro Water and IMD can offer smarter solutions to their customers. More companies or representations are expected to join the Onyma Group.

Within the new partnership, Eddy Hilbrink will remain director of Pro Water and Sander Swuste, director at IMD, will coordinate between the two companies. The identity of both companies will remain the same. Director of the Onyma Group is Tom Dekker.
