Hochwald invests in new dairy

German dairy Hochwald is investing about €200 million in a new dairy for the production of durable dairy products in the center of its co-operative area.

“With our vision of the future – Hochwald 2020 – we set the course for the successful further development of our company and also secure the future of the German dairy industry,” said managing director of Hochwald Foods, Detlef Latka.

At the new site in Mechernich-Obergartzem in North Rhine-Westphalia, more than 800 million litres of milk will be processed annually by more than 250 employees. The raw milk comes from 1,250 of the 3,000 farms located in the area of the new dairy.

The construction period is two and a half years, so production will start in 2021. Decisive for choosing Mechernich for the new plant is the direct connection to the motorway, the proximity to large urban centers and favourable production conditions, Hochwald said.
