Rotech Machines, a pioneer in thermal inkjet technology will be exhibiting at this year’s PPMA Show, at the NEC in Birmingham. It will be at stand A31, ready to showcase its unparalleled range of printers and demonstrate its expertise and knowledge of the increasingly popular coding technology.

On the Rotech stand will be a selection of UK designed and built feeding systems, for applying variable information to packaging off-line. These feeders are manufactured to handle a variety of flat-form substrates with ease. When paired with a printer and/or labeller, they reliably print and/or label at high speeds, offering a cost-effective solution for coding away from the main production line.

PPMA Show is the UK’s leading production line event, showcasing the latest in processing and packaging machinery, including robotics and industrial vision. Covering everything from food, beverages and pharmaceuticals to household chemicals and toiletries, FMCG, and contract packers.

We are excited to announce the Dairy Industries Expo is set to take place in autumn 2025. This exhibition meets the longstanding demand from industry professionals for a dedicated event that encompasses the entire dairy processing chain—from processor to plate.

The Dairy Industries Expo will bring together the latest in processing machinery and services, packaging machines and materials, turnkey suppliers, quality control and assurance, ingredients, and logistics, creating the most comprehensive international dairy processing show under one roof.

Targeting the entire dairy processing and manufacturing industry, the event will provide a powerful platform for meeting new customers and strengthening relationships with current clients. This is the industry’s own event, set to deliver all the latest innovations and developments – from butter, yogurt and milk, to ice cream, cheese and whey.

Visitors will experience cutting-edge dairy innovations and equipment presented by exhibitors, and they can participate in informative workshops and seminars.

The event will feature an exciting programme of keynote presentations covering all sectors of the dairy industry, with free-to-attend sessions on the exhibition floor. Additionally, a series of engaging workshops will ensure that Dairy Industries Expo is much more than just a trade show.

Organized by the leading industry journal Dairy Industries International, alongside Bell Publishing’s experienced events team, the Dairy Industries Expo was launched in response to the industry’s call for an international event specifically targeting their needs.

Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to be part of the Dairy Industries Expo, where the future of dairy processing will be on full display.

More than just a trade show, this is the event that will shape the industry’s future.

Sadly, we will not be working with our friends at the International Cheese & Dairy Awards next year, as we’re looking to cover the entire spectrum of dairy products and services with our event. Cheese is obviously a wonderful, diverse product type, but it is just one colour of the rainbow that is dairy.

So, keep an eye out on your inbox and on the socials, as we will be announcing the dates and venues coming up. Every year we plan to get bigger and better, and 2025 is set to be a great show for the expo and the industry. Don’t miss out!

Stay tuned!

We have been busy working on next year’s Expo, alongside our good friends at the International Cheese and Dairy Awards, to launch the International Cheese and Dairy Expo

The new Expo, which includes the International Cheese and Dairy Awards, Dairy Industries Expo and Dairy Industries International, will be a purely dedicated event just for the dairy industry. It will bring together producers, retailers, processing machinery and services, packaging machines and materials, turnkey suppliers, quality control and assurance, ingredients and logistics.

It is now the whole industry under one roof, in Stafford. Right in the middle of the country on 26-27 June 2024.

The event will include the International Cheese and Dairy Awards, workshops, seminars, keynote speakers and a networking lunch.

Also, we mustn’t forget the Society of Dairy Technology, which was key to making our inaugural event the success it was last year. They will be hosting their annual dinner during the evening of our Expo and we hope to work with them to make the seminars even better than before for the visitors.

Part of this event is to ensure that many hands make light work. Together, we can make this the premier show for the industry, both in the UK and worldwide. Please visit www.internationalcheesedairyexpo.com or email sam@bellpublishing.com for more information.

International trade and exhibition centre, Koelnmesse, sees great potential and international growth opportunities in its Food and FoodTec areas of expertise. In order to accommodate this growth, the business unit will be divided into two units starting 1 June 2022 and managed by two experienced trade fair managers. Claire Steinbrück, previously director imm cologne, has been named vice president FoodTec. Bastian Mingers is transferring from Messe Düsseldorf to Cologne to assume responsibility for the Food business unit.

“We are delighted to have been able to gain two experienced trade fair managers in Claire Steinbrück and Bastian Mingers,” says Gerald Böse, chief executive officer of Koelnmesse GmbH. “Together with their teams, they will further develop and expand the future Food and FoodTec business units. I am convinced of the international growth opportunities for our existing events in these areas, but also for premieres like Anuga HORIZON.” Claire Steinbrück and Bastian Mingers succeed Anne Schumacher, who left the company at the end of February 2022.

Claire Steinbrück (39) has held managing positions in the international trade fair business for more than 15 years: at Messe Frankfurt, most recently as deputy director of the German Pavilion at EXPO Milano 2015, before transferring to Koelnmesse in April 2016. She has served as director of the imm cologne furnishings trade fair since August 2018. “Claire Steinbrück is characterised by her strategic strength, her experience in the global trade fair business and her consistent customer orientation,” describes Oliver Frese, Koelnmesse’s chief operating officer. She will be assuming responsibility for the Cologne trade fairs ProSweets Cologne, Anuga FoodTec and euvend & coffeena as well as for the respective portfolio of events abroad.

Koelnmesse is also looking forward to welcoming Bastian Mingers (38) to its ranks on 1 June. After 11 years at Messe Düsseldorf, currently as Global Head Wine & Spirits, he will head the Food business unit in Cologne. As such, he will be assuming responsibility for ISM, Anuga, the premiere event Anuga HORIZON and the extensive portfolio of events abroad. “We are looking forward to Bastian Minger’s expertise as an experienced project manager in the trade fair business and are certain he will further develop our Food trade fairs, while also perfectly positioning them in the international market,” says Frese.

I spent a decent portion of the last working week on my computer, watching dairy leaders from around the world discuss the effects of the pandemic on the industry, and what the industry did in response – continue to feed the world with nutritious products. Overall, it was quite a feat on the part of the organisers in Denmark and of the international dairy industry in general, to produce a conference with both in-person and remote sessions. But this is not the first time that dairy has stepped up to the plate and managed to deliver.

As Lactalis CEO Philippe Palazzi put it, “Every country had a lockdown, everything stopped, except the cows. They we still producing milk, and so we had to collect, we couldn’t miss one day, and everyone was collecting milk every day. The industry did not close one plant, and we had employees sleeping in the plants. I was really impressed how people were brave when doing their jobs.”

Like their health service counterparts, the dairy industry did not get a day off. Cows don’t know there are religious holidays, they just keep producing. And so, dairy processors provide for their countries every day, without fail.

Dr Judith Bryans also made a good point in her discussion of the Food Systems Summit, that the UN SDGs they are aiming for, dairy has already been working on, such as keeping people fed. “School milk programmes still continued to deliver even as school meal programmes stopped during the pandemic,” she noted.

The IDF continues to engage with the UN via national committees to help deliver on SDGs, and she said that the industry does have to continue to stay involved with these processes, as a lot of people at the summit were trying to influence the decision makers – who have particular ideologies and don’t want facts to get in the way of opinion. “There were some very hostile moments for dairy, which we had to work through. So we need to bring balance to the table, as can’t expect the world to understand us if we don’t engage,” she observed.

As an industry we are ahead of the curve when it comes to assessing climate change and making moves to lessen the load of dairy agriculture on the planet. But, like in the pandemic, we’re not getting a day off for this.

Independence Day and other matters https://www.dairyindustries.com/blog/37691/independence-day-and-other-matters/ https://www.dairyindustries.com/blog/37691/independence-day-and-other-matters/#respond Fri, 02 Jul 2021 08:38:07 +0000 https://www.dairyindustries.com/?post_type=blog&p=37691 Times do change and in general, they head for the better. I think this as we head towards another Independence Day celebration in the US.

This weekend, the US celebrates the 4th of July, otherwise known as Independence Day. It is a day of great national pride and fireworks. Sort of like Bonfire Night, but with better weather because it’s in July and not November. A chance to come together and eat barbecued products, plus coleslaw and ice cream.

Times change, and in general, they head towards the better, despite our current situation. However, it doesn’t much feel like it sometimes. I am a pessimistic optimist. I always think of the worst thing that could happen, and then when it does not occur (because asteroids hitting the earth enough to make a difference are quite rare), I am cheerful about it.

I’m also of the opinion that if you wait long enough, the tide will turn and whatever is endlessly torturing a situation will abate. This is what made me confident England would win over Germany in the Euro Cup match recently. Why not, after so long losing to them?

So that’s the mindset. This month I am optimistic that, having had my vaccinations, I am ready to go to a cheese tasting or two. I know this pandemic is not over by a long stretch, but I feel that a visit to a place where I can sample delicious cheese or three, is a reason to be cheerful. While we can’t indulge in the complete cheese-fest that is the International Cheese and Dairy Awards up in the midlands, we can sample some of its offerings with its upcoming preview event in Stafford, with a view towards visiting 21-23 October. And, the World Cheese Awards (3-6 November) is highlighting its Spanish connection, with its preview event, complete with Asturian cheeses.

I think that is part of what we get from the destruction of our everyday life with this global event. Appreciation of the smaller things, and cheese is a big part of that appreciation.

Worthy Farm has teamed up with the Co-Operative and Wyke Farms to produce Worthy Farm Reserve Cheddar, which is cheese made with milk produced from the cows that spend most of the year grazing on the site of the world-famous Glastonbury music festival in the UK.

As part of the launch, there is a promotion on-pack and in stores to win tickets to the next festival, which is now scheduled for 2022. I think it’s a nice reminder that out there, beyond lockdowns and vaccinations, there will be a time when we can all get together in muddy fields and listen to music. Part of our family’s leisure time has been going to concerts and gigs, and now it’s been just about a year since the first lockdown here in the UK. We miss it.

Meanwhile, streamed concerts have been tried, to varying effect. The Laura Marling one we saw back last June in our living room was a bit odd as she was in a deserted venue – as a result, there was no audience banter. She just played and left the stage. Right now, think TikTok and YouTube is your best bet for watching new music, really.

Never mind. The next online event is the Cheese Expo, which is normally held in the very cheesy US state of Wisconsin, 6-8 April. While there is no replacement for being there in person on the trade show floor, the facilities and speakers online make it an opportunity for those who wouldn’t attend in person every year, and spread the information out to a global audience. Well worth a viewing, imho. cheeseexpogo.org/schedule-of-events.

The good news is the International Cheese and Dairy Awards will (fingers, toes, everything crossed) be back in person 21-23 October at its new home at the Staffordshire Show Ground in the UK.

I look forward very much to seeing people in person across blocks of cheese and cups of tea. My cheese iron is not rusting, but there’s probably a cobweb or two on it due to disuse (and lockdown housekeeping).
