Looking forward in 2024

I started the New Year out with a glass of champagne with friends and family, after snacking on cheese scones with sweet chilli jam. The scones were made by myself with Mongomery cheddar and the jam was made by my friend Kelly, who resists all our entreaties to go on the Great British Bake Off (GBBO). We have been working our way through our Christmas cheese pile in this manner.
After the celebration, we headed home on the night bus. This is a mode of transport that we used to employ many years ago when we were younger. Back then, the bus was usually filled with thunderous drunken folks and general mayhem. I am pleased to report that this time, even the inebriated filed on and sat quietly as we trundled through south London.
We are very lucky in that where we live, safe public transport is available, even in the earliest hours. I know that’s not an option everywhere, so if you’re in a similar situation, consider yourself lucky.
Morning and I headed up to our local park to volunteer at Parkrun. I have run it a few times but my knee and general very slow timings make volunteering the better option for me. It was good to be out in the bracing cold and watching other people exercise, while we timed them. Parkrun is an international organisation, and its free to join and participate. Visit parkrun.org.uk for further information.
My personal exercise plan is more swimming in 2024. I’ve signed up to a 125.2km, five month long swim at our local outdoor pool. It’s more about keeping the moving up when it’s cold and rainy, and I know by the end I’ll be reminiscing about the soggy swims when it was just me, a few other nutters and the lifeguards at the pool.
Another thing to look forward to is our International Cheese and Dairy Expo on 27 June in Stafford, UK. Along with the SDT Symposium and Dinner on 26 June and the ICDA Awards and networking lunch, it promises to be a solid two days of all things dairy in the UK. Don’t miss it!
Whatever you are looking forward to, we here at Dairy Industries International hope it is the best possible for you, and wish you a happy, healthy New Year.
