What a week

last week we held our second Expo, in conjunction with the International Cheese & Dairy Awards, and the day after the Society of Dairy Technology’s Summer Symposium and well-attended dinner.

A cheesy tour

Every once in a while, I like to get on a hair net and go visit a cheese site. Last week, it was a trip to Sardinia and a visit to the Maoddi family enterprise that makes Pecorino Romano cheese on the island.

Visiting the past

I spent the latter part of last week headed to Albert in France, near where World War I’s Battle of the Somme began in 1916 on 1 July.

France occupies a select place in world dairy, as a large producer of cow milk and its products, but also other small ruminant milks such as goats and sheep.

Cheese is still popular

As a recent visit to the IFE showed, what people are continuing to do is eat cheese. The UK’s biggest plans for export are in the cheese sector. In a way, cheese has always been a travelling food. It can be stored for months, and still tastes delicious. It is nutritious and filling.
